Recovery time can matter just as much as the list of issues a laser can improve. Our Mount Pleasant, SC, team at AesthetiSpa Cosmetic Skin & Laser Center uses both Fraxel DUAL and DEKA DOT fractional CO2 laser resurfacing. Founder and medical director Christy L. Cone, MD, is board-certified in Family Medicine, has comprehensive laser training, and is a member of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
Fraxel DUAL Treats a Fraction of the Skin at a Time
Fraxel DUAL 1550/1927 creates microscopic laser columns while leaving nearby tissue intact. It can be used for fine lines, wrinkles, surface scarring, pigmentation, age spots, and sun damage.
The usual plan is not necessarily one appointment. Clinical studies cited on our Fraxel page suggest an average series of three to five sessions, generally spaced two to four weeks apart. After a visit, you may notice redness, swelling, dryness, flaking, or a bronzed appearance as the skin renews itself.
Sun habits matter here. We advise SPF 30 or higher and avoiding direct sun exposure for at least three months after the last Fraxel treatment.
DEKA DOT Uses Fractional CO2 Energy
DEKA DOT also treats the skin fractionally, but it uses CO2 laser energy. We can vary the DOT pattern, laser strength, and pulse duration based on the area and degree of correction.
It is used for wrinkles, acne scarring, sun spots, large pores, uneven pigmentation, and rough texture. Recovery is generally four to seven days, depending on the strength and location of treatment. Skin can look red and feel sunburned at first, followed by dryness, roughness, and flaking.
One DEKA DOT session can create visible improvement, although a series of three may be advised when more correction is needed.
Compare the Schedule as Well as the Skin Goals
There is real overlap between these two lasers, so we look beyond a checklist of indications. Fraxel may involve a longer series with shorter periods of visible recovery, while DEKA DOT can involve a more concentrated recovery window. Your pigmentation history, previous procedures, sun exposure, treatment area, and how quickly you need to return to your usual work or social routine all matter.
Both lasers also require careful sun protection after treatment. If you are researching additional resurfacing choices, you can review Clear + Brilliant Touch, our broader laser and energy treatments, and Biosome-enhanced skin rejuvenation for information on another part of our post-procedure skin care approach.
