Radiofrequency can tighten and remodel skin in more than one way. At AesthetiSpa Cosmetic Skin & Laser Center in Mount Pleasant, SC, we use both Thermage® FLX and Genius™ RF microneedling, but the experience, recovery, and reasons for choosing them are different. Our Aesthetic Nurse and Laser Specialist Kelly Hunt, BSN, RN, has 31 years of medical experience, including 22 years devoted to skincare, along with advanced Thermage and laser training.
Thermage Uses Radiofrequency Without Needles
Thermage FLX sends radiofrequency energy into collagen-rich tissue without breaking the skin. The heat tightens existing collagen and stimulates new collagen formation over time. We use it on areas including the eyes, face, neck, and body.
If your main issue is loose or sagging skin and you want very little interruption to your routine, Thermage may fit that preference. Our Thermage page notes that lax skin can often be treated in a single session with minimal downtime. Thermage also works across skin types and colors.
Because there are no needles, the recovery experience is quite different from RF microneedling, which is worth considering if your calendar is busy. Patients researching treatment beyond the face can also review our facial and body contouring options.
Genius Pairs Microneedling With RF Energy
Genius takes another route. Microneedles enter the skin at selected depths and deliver radiofrequency energy into the dermis. That makes it especially relevant when firmness is only part of what you want to improve.
Wrinkles, acne scars, uneven texture, enlarged pores, and laxity can all be part of a Genius discussion. Most patients are advised to complete a series of three sessions about four weeks apart, although deeper scarring may call for more. Redness can last 24 to 72 hours, and the skin may stay sensitive for several days. Genius can also be used across skin types.
If comfort is one of your questions, our team can discuss whether PRO-NOX™ sedation makes sense for your visit.
What Should You Compare Before Choosing?
If tightening is the main priority and minimal downtime matters, Thermage may be worth comparing first. If you also want to work on texture, scarring, or wrinkles, Genius gives us another way to approach those changes.
Treatment area matters too. So does your comfort with a series of appointments versus a single session. Our skin rejuvenation services include both because different skin changes call for different tools.
If you are weighing Thermage against Genius RF, bring those questions to our team. Call AesthetiSpa Cosmetic Skin & Laser Center at 843-849-9925 or schedule a consultation in Mount Pleasant, SC.
