Time To Get Rid Of The Double Chin

At this time of year, most us of have our sights set on a certain very prevalent double chin — that of our Thanksgiving turkey! Sure, turkeys have a lot of junk going on under their chins, but they can’t do much about it.

Unfortunately, humans aren’t exactly immune to the profile sagging that is a double chin. That’s why we offer Kybella at AesthetiSpa. Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable that can really tighten up your profile and diminish your double chin.

Most of us have one

It’s easy to think of double chins on others, guys like Chris Christie, the ex-governor of New Jersey, or Jobba the Hut from Star Wars. True be told? Most of us over the age of 40 have some degree of a double chin.

People even admit it. In a 2015 survey from the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, two thirds of respondents said they were bugged by their double chin. And they said their double chin was as disturbing to them as wrinkles, creases, and other visible signs of aging.

Kybella® to the rescue

Introduced a couple years ago after the FDA’s 2016 approval, Kybella® is the only injectable treatment to improve the appearance and profile of a double chin.

The basis of Kybella® is deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body whose job is to aid in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella® (and its deoxycholic acid) destroys the fat cells. After those cells are gone, there is no longer a storage mechanism to accumulate fat in the area. So, your double chin shouldn’t return!

Multiple treatments yield the best results

At AesthetiSpa, we customize our Kybella® treatments for every patient. The FDA has approved up to six Kybella treatments. Some patients see the results they want after two to four treatments; others want all six. The number of treatments will depend on the amount of fat stored under your chin, along with your desired final profile. Each treatment is spaced four weeks apart.

Kybella® usually causes swelling in the injection area. This is due to the Kybella reacting with and attacking the fat cells. This swelling varies between patients, but it can last a couple weeks. We’ll discuss these possibilities with you prior to your session.

Late fall on the Carolina coast isn’t a bad time to work on that double chin. That way your profile will be its new slimmer self when spring rolls around. Call the team at AesthetiSpa, 843-849-9925, and set up a Kybella session.
