Although this year will be a different sort of holiday season with this darn enduring Covid-19 virus, we’ll still be getting together with family if nothing else. And you always want to look your best, no matter if it’s your mother-in-law giving you the once over or Santa deciding if your skin goes on the naughty or nice list.
That’s why the end of November is a good time for a chemical peel at AesthetiSpa. Chemical peels simply give our skin’s natural exfoliation process a little boost, shedding the dead, dull outer layer of skin cells to reveal younger, more vibrant skin beneath.
What can be addressed with chemical peels?
- Reduce and diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Improve skin tone
- Decrease discoloration
- Reduce the appearance of dark areas from pregnancy or birth control pills
- Treat certain forms of acne
- Improve the appearance of minor scars
- Decrease the prominence of sun spots and other sun damage
How do we do chemical peels at AesthetiSpa?
The concept behind a chemical peel is to apply a chemical to the skin (usually the face) and then allow that chemical to penetrate the layers of the skin, causing peeling in a few days. The chemical causes the bonds in the outer skin to loosen, allowing them to slough off.
At your appointment, your skin is first thoroughly cleaned, and your eyes and hair are protected. We then apply the chemical solution to your treatment areas. The solution and its duration on your skin are dependent on the patient’s individual skin conditions. Generally, we use glycolic, salicylic acid, or lactic acid. These acids are all naturally occurring in foods such as fruit or dairy products. Our more aggressive peels usually are based around trichloroacetic acid.
After your peel, you’ll have some mild to moderate redness for up to 24 hours. The degree depends upon the peeling agent and duration. Within three days or so, your skin will flake off, again the degree dependent upon the strength of the peel. This usually lasts for a week or so, and then your newer, refreshed skin will be on the surface, and you’ll be ready for inspection from your mother-in-law at your Secret Santa Party.
