The Fraxel Laser has quite a following in the aesthetic world. As the original laser skin resurfacing treatment platform, it was the first treatment that sought to use the skin’s wound-healing mechanisms to improve the skin.
At AesthetiSpa we offer the Fraxel DUAL for our patients from up and down the coastal Carolina area. Fraxel DUAL is two lasers in a single platform, allowing us to treat both superficial skin issues along with more involved issues such as deep lines and texture.
What is Fraxel?
Fraxel originated “fractional resurfacing,” where the laser energy makes hundreds of microscopic columns down through the epidermis into the dermis. These microscopic punctures are surrounded by healthy, undamaged skin, hence the “fractional” moniker.
Fraxel DUAL takes that a step further with its two lasers providing different wavelengths. At AesthetiSpa, we use DUAL’s 1927 nm wavelength for superficial skin issues such as age spots and overall pigmentation problems. The 1550 nm wavelength penetrates into the dermis layer of the skin, where it initiates a wound-healing response. This improves overall skin texture, boosting collagen production to improve deep lines and creases and acne scarring.
Ablative vs. non-ablative
In the past, there have been two kinds of available laser skin treatments for skin rejuvenation: ablative and non-ablative. Ablative treatments use high temperatures to vaporize unwanted tissue, usually on the epidermis. The problem with these treatments has always been their aggressiveness. These treatments have significant side effects and require lengthy recovery times. Non-ablative treatments haven’t had any of the side effects or the downtimes, but they have required numerous treatments to produce even modest results.
Fraxel laser treatments deliver the potency of ablative treatments but with the safety of non-ablative lasers. So, you get dramatic results without the downtime.
Where can Fraxel DUAL be used and what can be treated?
At AesthetiSpa, the versatility of our Fraxel DUAL platform enables us to treat skin issues across the body. These are treatment areas we’re using Fraxel DUAL: face, neck, chest, hands, arms, and legs.
These are the skin problems we can treat with Fraxel DUAL:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Surface acne scarring
- Pigmentation inconsistency
- Sun damage
- Actinic keratoses
