How is an Excel V treatment done?
These treatments don’t require topical numbing cream, so they take just 15-30 minutes, depending on what we’re treating. First, we fit you with a pair of protective eye goggles to protect your eyes from the laser pulses. Next, we set the spot size and the depth of penetration of the Excel V laser. These are based on the treatment area and the extent of discoloration or broken blood vessels. The handpiece is held against the skin and, within the spot guide, the laser light is pulsed onto the outer skin. It penetrates the outer epidermis, and the hemoglobin or melanin in the age spot or blood vessel absorbs the light energy. This energy converts to heat and it closes off the vein or breaks up the melanin in the age spot. Vessels close off and instantly become less visible or fully disappear. They then continue to diminish as the body scavenges the closed-off vein. With the age spots, the spot darkens and then peels. The body goes about disposing of the melanin particles to continue to lighten the area.
