The face and neck do not always age on the same timeline. Neck skin is thinner and more delicate, so changes in collagen, sun exposure, posture, and muscle activity can become noticeable even when the face still looks relatively smooth. At AesthetiSpa Cosmetic Skin & Laser Center in Mount Pleasant, SC, our Gold Protocol™ neck rejuvenation gives us a way to work with several of those changes. Founder and medical director Christy L. Cone, MD, is a board-certified physician and Master Injector with experience in advanced uses of fillers and neurotoxins.
Why the Neck Can Show Changes Sooner
As collagen and elastin decline, thinner neck skin has less structural support. Years of sun exposure can add uneven texture and loss of firmness. Repeated downward posture from phones and computers can deepen horizontal creases, often called “tech neck.”
Muscle activity creates another type of change. The platysma can become more visible with age, producing vertical bands that are different from a wrinkle sitting within the skin itself.
That distinction matters. A horizontal crease, general laxity, and a visible muscle band may appear in the same area, but they do not come from exactly the same source. Looking closely at which change is most noticeable helps us avoid treating a skin crease as though it were a muscle problem, or vice versa.
Lines, Laxity, and Bands May Need Different Tools
Our Gold Protocol combines three injectables for separate parts of neck aging. Radiesse® is used to support firmness and collagen production. Belotero® can soften fine horizontal creases, while Xeomin® can relax selected platysma activity to soften vertical bands.
Energy-based care can also have a place when skin looseness or texture is a priority. Thermage® uses radiofrequency without needles, while Genius RF microneedling can be added when more tightening and texture improvement are wanted.
Do Not Stop Skincare at the Jawline
Daily habits still matter, especially sun protection. Extending sunscreen and your regular skincare down the neck and upper chest can help limit additional sun-related changes. It is a simple step, but it is easy to overlook when most routines center on the face.
When you meet with us, we can separate what is coming from the skin, what is related to laxity, and what is driven by muscle movement. That makes the discussion much more specific.
