A widening part, a thinner ponytail, or more scalp showing in photographs can be early signs of reduced hair density. Our team at AesthetiSpa Cosmetic Skin & Laser Center provides ACell + PRFM hair restoration for suitable adults in Mount Pleasant and the greater Charleston area. The practice is led by Christy L. Cone, MD, a board-certified physician and Master Injector with experience in nonsurgical aesthetic medicine and hair-loss care.
Recognizing Early Changes in Hair Density
Thinning does not always begin with an obvious bald area. It often develops slowly and may first become noticeable while washing, brushing, or styling your hair.
Signs can include:
- A part that looks wider than it used to
- Less fullness around the crown or temples
- A receding hairline
- Increased daily shedding
- Finer or weaker strands
- More visible scalp

Why Hair Loss Should Be Evaluated First
Reduced density can be related to heredity, hormonal changes, stress, nutritional deficiencies, medication, medical conditions, or recent weight loss. Since several factors can contribute, the most appropriate care depends on what is driving the change.
Once possible causes have been considered, we can discuss nonsurgical options for thinning hair. ACell + PRFM is generally intended for patients who still have active follicles in the affected area. It cannot create new follicles or restore hair in an area that has been completely bare for a long time.
How Does ACell + PRFM Work?
The appointment begins with a small blood draw. The sample is processed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich portion, which is then prepared as platelet-rich fibrin matrix.
This material contains concentrated platelets, proteins, and naturally occurring growth factors involved in tissue repair. It is combined with ACell MicroMatrix and placed into selected areas of the scalp.
ACell acts as a supportive framework, while the prepared platelet-rich matrix encourages activity around weakened follicles. The goal is to help existing hair grow stronger and improve visible density over time. Appointments generally take about 30 to 45 minutes.
When Might Results Appear?
Hair grows in stages, so changes are gradual. Some patients begin noticing improvement within three to six months, with density and fullness continuing to develop during the following year.
Timing differs for each person. The extent of thinning, follicle health, underlying cause, and response to treatment can all affect the outcome. Starting earlier may leave more functioning follicles available to respond.
Where Supplements and Topical Products May Fit In
Scalp injections are sometimes only one part of the care plan. Based on your needs, we may also discuss professional shampoo, prescription topical therapy, Nutrafol hair wellness supplements, or Viviscal Professional.
Each option serves a different purpose. A consultation allows us to choose the therapies that fit your type of shedding rather than relying on a general routine that may not match the cause.
Early changes are often easier to evaluate before more density is lost. Call 843-849-9925 or contact us to meet with the team at AesthetiSpa Cosmetic Skin & Laser Center in Mount Pleasant, SC. We welcome patients from Charleston and throughout the surrounding Lowcountry.
