Nearly one third of men are bald, while nearly 30 million American women are losing some of their hair too. Scalp pigmentation is an innovative new treatment that can help hide thinning hair. This process involves ink marks inserted just under the skin of your scalp that look like tiny hairs. The pigment and unique application replicate hair follicles in your scalp. Blending custom colors to match your natural hair yields a natural look. Scalp pigmentation can help in the appearance of baldness and thinning hair without surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions for Scalp Pigmentation

What happens at my appointment?
We ask that you come in without any product in or on your hair / scalp. We will use a white chalk or pencil to draw the hairline. We numb the area with a topical numbing cream. We use a single needle, or a rolling needle depending on the size of the area to create a replication of hair follicles.

Is it a tattoo?
Scalp pigmentation is the same principal as a tattoo in that pigment is deposited below the skin. We use a range of pigments to custom blend and create you hair tattoo.

How do I prepare for my treatment?
Do not take any pain killers, aspirin, Tylenol, ibuprofen, etc. blood thinners or alcohol for two days before your appointment. Avoid berries especially strawberries as they are high in natural salicylic acid/aspirin.

How long does it last?
Scalp pigmentation fades gradually over a period of years. Various factors affect how each person will retain color. Pigment colors which contain more white will fade faster and UV exposure increases fading, so we always advise sunscreen to protect your color. Some people retain color for years, and others get a touch up every year or two. The price for touch-ups is 60% of the original cost and is one visit.

Is it painful?
Most people just feel pressure and vibration but no real pain. As we are in a physician’s office we use high quality prescription numbing ointments.

Is there any downtime or recovery period?
No, the skin on some clients may be slightly red, but this will fade in a day. The new “hair” may have a more defined look, but this will blend within a week.

How much does it cost?
This really depends on the hair loss pattern and will be determined on consultation. Our consultations are free.
