Restylane Silk – Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is Restylane Silk
Restylane Silk is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid that is specifically formulated to act like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid, helping to instantly, visibly reduce moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.
2. What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance found in your skin. As you age, you start to lose hyaluronic acid which causes the skin to lose structure and volume, contributing to the formation of wrinkles and folds.
3. What makes Restylane Silk different from Restylane-L or Restylane Lyft
Restylane Silk is a thinner, softer gel with smaller particle size. It is injected more superficial than Restylane-L or Restylane Lyft which means it’s a good choice for shaping and adding volume to the lips and correcting fine lines around the mouth.
4. How does Restylane Silk work
Restylane Silk works immediately by adding volume to smooth away wrinkles. A clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid, Restylane Silk is specifically formulated to act like your body’s own hyaluronic acid, and eventually breaks down naturally.
5. What areas can be treated with Restylane Silk?
As we get older, the lips and lines around the mouth, like other areas of the face, show signs of aging. This often results in lip thinning, lost shape, and an increase in vertical lines above the lip. Restylane Silk is specifically designed to provide natural-looking results in these particular areas by using smaller, smoother particles than other Restylane products.
The most common areas treated are:
- lips (volumizing, smoothing, shaping)
- fine lines around the mouth
- corners of the mouth
6. How soon can I expect to see results?
You can see results immediately although there is typically some swelling around the filler initially and this can take a few days to resolve and see the final result.
7. How long does it last?
Restylane Silk typically lasts 4-6 months but this can vary from person to person.
8. How is the treatment performed?
Dr. Cone or Lisa Butler, RN will perform an initial consultation with you and review your medical history. If Restylane Silk is determined to be right for you, a dental block will be performed to completely numb the lips and area surrounding the mouth. Restylane Silk will then be injected into the skin in small amounts and ice will be applied.
9. Is it safe?
Yes, Restylane Silk has been extensively studied and documented with comprehensive studies that support its safety and efficacy.
10. What are the potential side effects?
After treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, or tenderness. These are typically mild in severity and normally last less than 7 days. Swelling may be more likely in patients under 36 years, and bruising may be more likely in patients over 35 years.
11. What should you do prior to treatment?
Restylane Silk requires no pretesting, but you should take a few precautions before being treated. Avoid using St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E supplements, aspirin, and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen 5 days prior to treatment, because these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Also, if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, discuss this with Dr. Cone or Lisa Butler, RN. An antiviral medication may be prescribed to prevent recurrences.
